Tips to Keep your Teeth White

Clean, white teeth are an essential part of the external appearance. There are several things to consider if you want to keep you smile shiny.

American women are globally known for having nice teeth, but even the most perfect assets need to be taken properly care of.

A beautiful smile makes a huge difference for our interaction with other people.

In this article you learn about what you can you do to keep your mouth fresh and attractive for years to come.

Avoid staining substances

The number one enemy of white teeth is tobacco. Quit smoking is much easier said than done, but if you won’t stop for your health, will you do it for a more attractive smile?

Also, coffee, tea, and colas are culprits cause staining of teeth. Other risky food products include fruit juices (especially grape), red wine, fruits such as blueberries, soy sauce, and curry. There is a simple basic rule: if a food or beverage can leave permanent stains on clothes or carpets, it can probably taint your teeth too.

us-girls-smilingWhen you do indulge in staining beverages, do so in one or two sittings rather than sipping such drinks throughout the day. And brush after drinking them. It is also advisable to use a straw. You may not want to try this with hot coffee, but sipping iced tea, cola, and fruit juices through a plastic straw will reduce your teeth’s exposure to these staining beverages.

If you are about be treated for an infection and you get antibiotics containing tetracycline, your teeth may turn yellowish, permanently. So, make sure you ask your doctor not to choose tetracycline as there are other good alternatives available in the clear majority of situations.

Stains from food and drink can often be removed with a professional dental cleaning. A more time-consuming option is in-office bleaching. However, only your dentist can correct intrinsic stains, using cosmetic procedures (porcelain laminate veneers etc.)

Keep your teeth clean

That means daily brushing. An electric toothbrush is more effective as most of us you don’t do a thorough enough job manually. You should avoid bearing down too hard when you brush or using a hard-bristled brush can create grooves in the teeth at their roots. You can brush with a light touch and still do a thorough cleaning job.

The plaque that accumulates between teeth and at the gum line attracts stains. Limit plaque with flossing. That will help you to prevent stains too.

Use stain-removing toothpastes with caution. Toothpastes designed to scrub away tobacco, coffee, and other stains on the teeth are generally abrasive and should be avoided. Dentists usually recommend using these products no more than two or three times a week.

If your teeth stain easily, call your dentist for a cosmetic cleaning between checkups. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and keeps your smile fresh and sexy.

Home Treatments for Whiter Teeth

If your smile has lost its sparkle, you may try one of the many tooth-whitening kits sold in pharmacies and supermarkets. There are gels that you either paint on, tooth by tooth, or squirt into a mouth tray, which you then wear for a prescribed period.

Similarly, you can purchase whitening “strips” which are thin, flexible bands of plastic. You can also buy “whitening pens,” which have sponge-tips through which you apply the whitening agent.

Many of the dental whitening kits for home use contain carbamide peroxide. The peroxide “bleaches” the teeth to remove surface discolorations as well as many deeper stains; it penetrates the tooth to eliminate stains that have accumulated over the years.

Still,  most importantly, use your electric toothbrush and floss frequently.

If you follow the advices above, there is good chance you manage to keep your “oral appeal” shiny and attractive for years to come!
